General Questions

Electrolysis is the only FDA-approved method for permanent hair removal. It works by inserting a very fine probe into the hair follicle to deliver a small electrical current, destroying the growth cells and preventing regrowth.

Laser hair removal reduces hair growth but is not permanent. It works best on dark hair and light skin. Electrolysis, on the other hand, works on all hair colors and skin types and permanently removes hair.

Yes! Many clients choose electrolysis to permanently remove any remaining hair after laser treatments, especially lighter or finer hairs that laser couldn’t eliminate.

Yes! Electrolysis is effective on all hair colors, including white, gray, blonde, and red, and works on all skin tones.

Yes! Electrolysis permanently removes hair by destroying the follicle. Once treated, a follicle cannot grow new hair.

Discomfort varies by individual. Some describe it as a quick, mild stinging or warmth, while others feel minimal discomfort. We can adjust the settings for your comfort, and numbing creams can be used if needed.

Yes! Electrolysis is a safe and effective method for hair removal when performed by a trained professional. At Nix Electrolysis, we use sterile, single-use probes and follow strict sanitation protocols.

Treatment process & Sessions

The number of sessions varies based on hair density, the area treated, and individual hair growth cycles. Most clients need multiple sessions over several months to achieve full permanent results.

For best results, weekly or biweekly sessions are recommended at first. As hair growth decreases, sessions become less frequent until permanent removal is achieved.

Session length depends on the treatment area and hair density. Small areas (e.g., upper lip) may take 15 minutes, while larger areas (e.g., legs, back) may need 60 minutes or longer. We will recommend the best session length for you.

Results vary based on hair type, area, and consistency of treatment. You may notice a reduction within a few sessions, but full permanent results require multiple sessions as hair grows in cycles.

Pre & Post-Treatment Care

  • Avoid tweezing, waxing, or threading for at least 2-3 weeks before treatment. Do not shave for 3-4 days before treatment.
  • Stay hydrated for better skin elasticity.
  • Avoid excessive sun exposure before your session.

Yes! You may apply a topical numbing cream before your appointment.

No. Tweezing, waxing, or threading should be avoided. These methods remove the root, making electrolysis less effective. Shaving is allowed but should be stopped at least 3 days prior to treatment.

You may experience mild redness, sensitivity or slight swelling which subsides within a few hours. In some cases, you may see temporary scabbing which should heal within a few days. Following aftercare instructions will ensure optimal healing and results.

  • Keep the area clean and moisturized. Apply aloe vera or soothing ointment if needed.
  • Avoid touching or scratching the treated area.
  • Skip makeup or harsh skincare products for at least 24 hours on facial areas.
  • Avoid excessive heat, sweating, or sun exposure for 24-48 hours.

Most redness and swelling subside within a few hours. In some cases, tiny scabs may form and heal naturally within a few days.

When performed correctly and with proper aftercare, scarring is extremely rare.
